dsc00238Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit!

my mother used to say

the first of every month

to keep bad luck away.

Did she teach me superstition?

Never. Not a trace.

But I’m going to say it anyway

you know — just in case.

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, dear reader!

And thanks again to the S.W. Berg Photo Archives,

Connections: January 28.17

vh-2016-11-36-old-treeCrumpled

something tall and proud

lies felled

death took it

then blade

now knelled

in crackling whisper

as kin mark

their own sure geld

respectfully distant

from remnants

sentinel’d

in tender long shadows

shrouded

farewelled.

More thanks to the S.W. Berg Photo Archives,

Connections: November 20.16

vernon-hill-44-2015-10This was my look

yesterday

as I stared out the window

in flannel’d dismay

at snow mixed with rain

shot like a sneeze

by a roaring cold wind

in a straight-line freeze.

From seventy degrees

to this? Overnight?

Ma Nature’s sense of humor

is seriously impolite.

Thanks yet again to the S.W. Berg Photo Archives, Vernon Hill Gallery.
