Up
Up is a good place
though you can’t always see it;
still it’s undeniable
that you can often be it.
Up is somewhere better;
how ever up you are,
there’s always somewhere upper
than the place in which you are.
Speaking for myself,
I’d like an elevator;
a simple push of button,
and sooner rather than later.
Up could be so reachable
if I could hitch a ride,
I wouldn’t be wheezing and gasping,
and clutching the stitch in my side.
But the lesson I have learned
from that old taskmaster Time:
if you want to get to Up,
you’re going to have to climb.
With thanks to Dan Antion for the photo
and for hosting the
Thursday Doors Writing Challenge.
My muse and I have had a great time;
we’re indebted to the door donors and to you, Dan!

You and your muse had a marvelous run, Maureen and you ended on an up note (sorry, I couldn’t resist). I like this a lot, and with the hills in West Virginia, up was always a challenge.
Thanks so much for joining us and sharing your talent and spirit throughout the month.

Oh, good one! Thanks so much, Dan. You wore out my muse — I didn’t know she had it in her!

I am impressed. I think she deserves a slice of pie.

She thinks so too!

You and your muse are a wonder, Maureen! Great job on all the doors you have written about. You are someone I definitely look up to. You know the ‘up’ jokes are going to keep on coming….!

Yes, I can see I — ahem — opened a door to those! Thanks, Lois! We are sharp ones, aren’t we?

haha! Oh, yes. Sharp as a tack. 🤣

This ‘up’ reminded me of my trip to a local furniture store this week. I climbed this huge staircase to get upstairs only to have to go back up because the salesperson and I weren’t in sync about my choice. It is an old historic building, but I told him they needed a lift of some sort for us old folks who still shop local. 🙂

Hear, hear! That kind of climb would be bad enough if you found the furniture of your dreams, but to find zero? My sympathies to your knees!

Maureen, you and your muse need to take a bow and revel in the applause for another job well done. The door entries really got you ‘up’ and running. Don’t you go getting all uppity on us now just because you could write about a paper bag and we’d be hanging on to every word!
Thanks for sharing this. You made my mood brighten up tenfold.

Thank you, Ginger. I’m laughing here at all the up’s. I should have known!

A lesson we all must learn sooner or later! Much as we might desire it, Scotty is not going to beam us up. (K)
