October 2.21: Coping

I know that I am cranky

but it must be more than that

that sends me into orbit

from computer bloat and blat.

To its endless mindless deluge

of must-have things and stuff,

I borrow from the Bard

and cry out “Hold! Enough!”

Gadgets, gizmos, whatnots,

creams and pills and shoes,

dog food, hats, and cure-alls,

bathtubs, nails, tattoos.

“Buy and spend!” And “one left!”

“You have to be like me!”

and my favorite Brooklyn Bridge,

a gift that’s totally free!

Celebrities by the dozens

stream a glam who’s-who,

why are they important?

I don’t have a clue.

My computer gives assist

with Likes and Sends and Shares,

but what I really need

is a key that says Who Cares?

  1. Please, send me the link to that key if you find it. πŸ™‚ I know my age is showing, but one reaches a point where they realize that ‘stuff’ doesn’t make one happy and it also requires sorting at some point. I not only don’t want to spend money on all that stuff, but I don’t want to have to store it. Maybe we need to talk to the library about borrowing ‘stuff’ that we can return. I could get behind that. πŸ™‚

    • Ooh! A Stuff Library! That might be the most brilliant idea anyone ever had! Although it would have to be a certain kind of stuff, I think. Most of what the computer throws at me is not very tempting. I suspect you and I would be very selective about our stuff. We’d like cool stuff like maybe a bike. We could park it in the front yard so people think we can ride it and then we could just return it to the Stuff Library. I like it.

  2. This is such a good idea! You are so right that the ideas are endless — as would be the laughs. Everyone even remotely our age would be totally on board with this!

  3. Haha – I love the idea of a “Who Cares” key. I’d be wearing that thing out.

  4. And then there’s the keys we do have but have little idea of what they’re for. Some of those to the left of the space bar, for example. Fancy if we’d all had a ‘who cares’ key all along?

    • What a thought! I’d be both miffed and ecstatic all at once if I found out that one of these keys happened to be the Who Cares? key! But you are right that a lot of these keys and the hieroglyphics on them are complete mysteries.

  5. Bravo, bravo. I join you all! I’ve been cleaning out and rearranging our guest room and have found things under the beds that were once so important. Now – who cares. A computer key that would make such things go away, what a blessing. Also, the thoughts of so many disturbed people the same.

  6. Hallelujah! I’m with you! Wish I had that Who Cares key, and maybe a Declutter one too.
