April 29.20: Coping

What do we know?

Could we write unafraid?

Would anyone read it?

Would it get a good grade?

Are we grounded in anything

we’d write and then sign,

with sacred Honor, Fortune,

and Life on the line?

What do we know

winnowed by living,

what grain of belief

left for our scrivening?

More thanks to photographer S.W. Berg

for the nostalgic image,

and to Thomas Jefferson

for the enduring words.

  1. Good one, but how many can ‘write’ anymore without a keyboard? 🙂 Happy Wednesday, Maureen. Hope life is treating you okay and your feathered friends are providing some entertainment. The sun is shining here, and that’s a good thing.

    • A question to be pondered! My feathered friends are hunkered down like the rest of us right now, though I did hear a sad-sounding duck a little while ago. It’s grey and windy and rainy and I think even the ducks are discouraged. Very glad to hear there is sun there — you’ve earned it! Happy Wednesday to you, too, Judy!

  2. I still dream now and again that I have to sit an exam – generally something about Middle English – but have not read the books or attended the classes. I have been wondering how your son and his family are getting on.

    • That nightmare seems to come with graduation, though, I’ll grant, it isn’t Middle English for everyone.

Thanks for asking. He is still struggling with it, though he’s better. So far his family seems all right, but I would bet the farm that my granddaughter had it in January.
