Beware the gardener’s itch

to dig in firma terra

lest you be pruned and potted

along with the schefflera.

The gardener cannot help it,

her nails are far too clean,

so kitchen turns to hothouse,

mid-winter turns to green.

With more thanks to photographer S.W. Berg

and to indoor/outdoor gardener D.J. Berg

for this testimonial to gardeners’ winter fever.

  1. Okay, you hit way too close to home with this one. I brought one plant with me so I wouldn’t miss its yearly blooms, and the first weekend I was here I went out and bought four more. 🙂 Hey, a gardener has to do what a gardener has to do, right? 🙂

  2. It’s hard to beat schefflera for a rhyme. Credit iOS due to the gardener as you say – this scene reminded me of a plant swap we visited this weekend!

    • I did not intend iOS, needless to say. I imagine the WordPress spell check may have ‘helped me out’ with this. Technical stuff sticking together.

      • Indeed, “help” like that we can do without. I think that plant swap you intended must have been a lot of very colorful fun! I love the photo because of the way the winter hovers right outside the window. And all the garden color inside. As for scheflerra, it was all I could do to get it typed right; that was so much work I could barely get it rhymed.

      • I don’t think I’ve ever seen the word written down before.
