In April
there is ache
strain of eye and soul
for the stirring
just beyond
just below
the shorn cracking brown.

Perfect! A SC friend is on her way home and sent me a photo of gorgeous Wisteria. I told her to enjoy that purple color because once she hit the NH border and headed north through ME, all she’d see is brown. And, if the rain doesn’t stop soon, we’ll all develop webs on our feet. 😦

I don’t know why I laughed — webbed feet could well be our next evolution at the rate we’re going. And much larger eyes to take in what little light there is. You are so right to tell your friend to enjoy that purple while she can. It’s a brown, brown world for us northerners.
