While Jean served in the Marines (yesterday’s post),
Edna, my other aunt, served in the WAVES.
She also kept a scrapbook.
On the left, the lyrics to “The Navy’s Got a Job For Me.”
On the right, a booklet of songs, dedicated (no kidding!) on the day I came into the world.
Thus do families keep the reasons for Memorial Day.

Two female heroes in your family – now that is something to celebrate today. 🙂

Indeed, I do celebrate a lot about them. But it’s all tinged with the other things I remember. Like my father’s stories about the friends who never came back. Your family has known war grief, and I’m sure your memories and feelings run deep on a day like today. I am very sorry for the losses you must feel again every Memorial Day.
