Connections: December 29.16

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAThere are unbelievers

I have heard

who think that Jello

is table’s nerd

they wouldn’t have it

on their plate

its commonness

too profligate.

Their families haven’t

gathered ’round

to listen for

that Jello sound

a sign of

gastronomical luck

like foot pulled out of

deep deep muck.

There’s science and art

both delicate and tough

to make the mold

disgorge its stuff,

and nothing speaks

of drama unfolded

like cheering for

the jiggly unmolded.

So hoorar for the Jello

and family rite

may we hold to such memory

with good appetite.

  1. You hit the target with me again. 🙂 I have to say I don’t make jello very often any more, BUT my mother and mother-in-law made great jello and it was a part of a holiday meal, and I loved it. My mother liked fruit in hers, and my mother-in-law would whip some whipped cream into some of the jello and layer it. 🙂

    • Hooray for Jello people! Except for those who put unexplainable things like carrots and cabbage in it, we are a noble lot. I too remember Jello with whipped cream in it — we are so lucky!

  2. I had to tell you I went to a dinner tonight with about 50 folks in our same age range and there were at least a half a dozen jello salads of various colors and tastes. I tried most of them. 🙂
