SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAThere are unbelievers

I have heard

who think that Jello

is table’s nerd

they wouldn’t have it

on their plate

its commonness

too profligate.

Their families haven’t

gathered ’round

to listen for

that Jello sound

a sign of

gastronomical luck

like foot pulled out of

deep deep muck.

There’s science and art

both delicate and tough

to make the mold

disgorge its stuff,

and nothing speaks

of drama unfolded

like cheering for

the jiggly unmolded.

So hoorar for the Jello

and family rite

may we hold to such memory

with good appetite.

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAWhen the hurly-burly’s done

wrapping paper war is won

fevered shoppings cease

there seeps a certain peace

the real celebration

the season’s culmination

savoring “Silent Night”

with breakfast

by Christmas tree light.

With apologies to Shakespeare.

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAI sang along with voice congealed

“the glory of the Lord shall be revealed”

the while wondering with much ado

if the blasted scotch tape might be revealed too.

And thus

does Christmas time

make the quotidian

the sublime.

I wish you, dear reader, the best of what you celebrate.

20161220_181935In such small space

so great a brightness

in such simple corner

so vast a rightness

not just because it’s Christmas

Christmas comes and goes

but because it speaks of home

which warms the heart and toes.

With thanks again to the S.W. Berg Photo Archives

and to the D.J. Berg Christmas Panorama.

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAYou may recall, dear reader,

when last you saw my tree

it was prostrate on the floor

Christmas gang agley.

The ruins have been salvaged

my firstborn saved the day

the tree is standing upright

with minimal crack and fray.

A festive touch, the Christmas twine

functional, albeit

a rarely-used adornment

please pretend that you don’t see it.
