Connections: July 17

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAToday is Grandma O’Hern Day

the date she was born and died.

She always had rice in her salt shaker

and a tin with buttons inside.

She said she was no gardener

and maybe that was true

but she always grew moss roses

and now I always do too.

Her house was our Saturday treat

my brother and I would play

with brown sugar sandwiches to eat

and I miss her to this day.

  1. My grandmother grew moss roses as well. 🙂 I never had brown sugar on a sandwich, but I ate many a cinnamon sugar one. (Check the birthdate and then delete this. :-))

    • Cinnamon-sugar sandwiches? Wow. You had a cool grandma too! And she too grew moss roses — was she also the one with the apron pockets and phlox?

      We were really lucky!
