I’m so excited I’m sky-blue-pink!

I can barely write

and hardly think!

My amaryllis, so long dormant,

finally wakened

and relieved my torment.

I planted it on December 1st

zealously sunned it

and tended its thirst.

But it wouldn’t sprout

and my scruples multiplied

until last week

when I knew it hadn’t died.

A portent of great beauty

from its recalcitrant bulb gut —

you will politely refrain from noting

it looks a lot like Jabba the Hutt.
